All successful images start in the camera, should your camera be set correctly then perhaps there is little or no need to use a Photoshop type programme.
To make a good sized print your capture size should be a good quality JPEG or better still a RAW file (for which you will need to use software).
In making the capture you need to consult your Histogram on your camera from time to time as the metering system may not reflect the scene as you see it.
You will find the Histogram in Photoshop type programmes as well as the one in your camera and it is here that you most often have the chance to develop your image.
